here is a repost of the very ancient post... tot it might be useful for the last time. hahaha.

pre-enlistment u may wanna buy/prepare certain items

Shave your head a day if u dun wanna shave there n i tell u its a better choice to shave on your own. u will be made to run here n there n sweat n u will be shaved without a shealth half-naked... so u can only imagine all the hair getting stuck to your wet body.
in addition, if u wanna shave... make sure u do so SHORT... if not u can imagine they shave u n the super fine hair particles sticking on to your body.
n shaving costs $2 in tekong; its not free. (it is true!)

guidelines for your side burn is nothing below the horizontal formed at the midlope of your ear. no stub from lower lip down. (bring ur shaver if u wan, their shaver sux)

clothes hangers. get cheap ones. try to get identical ones so tt your future section mates may be able to reg them as yours. at least 3. good to have about 5-6. bring along pegs as well.

toileteries. bring your own set. u can forget shampoo ... its supposedly one of the benefits of being botak. rinse, soap (everywhere), rinse off. under 5 mins. i brought my own soap in a lock-n-lock box.. useful as its waterproof. (bring foam instead of soap)

SAF will issue u a set of toothbrush/paste n soap in a soap box but HEY .. its for wayang purpose aka leave there for display (esp stand by bed) ... (but their toothbrush is not bad)u n pack them into your fieldpack when u go for route marches so ... dun use them.

handphones W/O cams are allowed. chargers (unless battery operated) are NOT allowed. if u want bring extra batteries. (i juz nice used 2 for 10days n i nv talk on hp long while wif cha bor n stuffs, so ppl wif gf bring 3 la)

bring slippers. useful for toilet visits.

toilet paper they will issue u 2 rolls. (bring ur own if u haf omg fragile ass la, doesn't really matter to me, but always haf at least 2 rolls around.)

dun bother bringing socks; u can only wear the SAF white socks. but bring as many pairs of underwear as possible... i mean it ... (14days bring 20 enuff, dun ks bring like 200, or u can bring 2 n grow some mushrooms. =) )

try your best to find the smallest lightest and/or most compressible civillian bag u can find.. (coz need to hide under ur bed or in cupboard)

bring along 2 rags for area cleaning. (1 to kiwi, 1 to clean boots)
bring washing powder as it can be useful. (unless u wan to stink n kill ur platoon mates) bringing in a small ziplock bag shud be fine.

portable radios the big kind if u wanna bring by all means. those transistor headphone type i see no pt. do NOT bring discmans with BURNT/pirated CDs... MP3 players shd be can (unless disallowed by ur individual company OC) . original CDs are fine.

specs shud be black plastic frame. watches shud be those cheap casio blac rubber type; u shud not bring those silvery ones. (or u can juz dun wear watch la, depend on others who do, emphasis is on cheap though, dun wan to lose it or spoil it)

bring nail clippers too. they can nail-check u.(fingers only la)

brign your own powder/prickly heat. (the giant one) the issued one, altho good ( i mean it) .. is meant to be put into the green container n packed into field pack... ever since i done so i have never taken it out.

for those considering to buy xtra sets of clothes so that you dun have to wash like siao ... heres what u may need to consider.

the public can visit an eMart at Selarang Camp, off upper changi road north.
u can take bus number 2 (from tanah merah mrt station towards east) or 29 (from tampines interchange) its ABOUT 4 stops away from changi prison .. ask bus uncle if unsure .. ABOUT arh ... not confirmed. opens after lunch on mondays n fridays.
(quite lame, shd be no need one)

dun not bring more than $30 cash into camp. have some money in your NETS account.. theres also an emart on tekong opens daily after lunch but for recruits its more of a reward to visit it. permission must be granted from superiors before doing so .. primarily because emart sells tidbits as well .. hehe ... (snacks can only use cash)
some things there are really worth buying .. your kiwi shoe polish is only like .. $0.57 ....

bring ur own towel, saf green towel is like carpet, won't absorb a single drop of water one. wet wipes to clean ur area easier-ly... thristy hippo thingy to absorb water n moisture.. dettol spray (i dunno why, but i like to use this).. biscuits n breakfast bars n crap (but not all companies allow them)

hehe. good luck.
